Abstract

Neuroinflammation is an early feature in Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neurodegenerative diseases and microglial neurotoxic responses are considered to have a key role in disease onset and progression. However, the mechanisms underlying dysregulated microglial activation and inflammatory responses remain incompletely understood. We have recently revealed that MOK kinase plays a role in CNS immunity by controlling microglial responses that involve epigenetic mechanisms. Moreover, recent results uncover other MOK-supported signalling pathways. Importantly, based on our results from studies with a preclinical model, we propose that MOK has a role in the pathophysiology of ALS.
