Biotechnology and Biosciences Seminar - giovedì, 5 maggio 2022, ore 16:30, aula U3-04 / Webex
Paolo Biella, Assistant Professor in Ecology at University of Milano-Bicocca, Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences
Abstract

Human activity could dramatically impact the ecosystem services provided by biodiversity to the societies. Among these services, pollination by animals is of global importance given the economic and health benefits, for their role in food security and primary ecological processes as indicated in the European Biodiversity Strategy 2030. This relationship between societies and pollinators, and the risks of pollinator loss, are extremely evident in small islands as well as in cities. In this seminar I will highlight the relationship between pollinators and people, showing case studies covering several aspects of habitat disturbance and different continents, and showing the how pollinators may cope to the challenges of the present world.
