Here we are with a new Spring Meeting appointment! On Wednesday, March 30th, the subjects discussed will include both individual and community issues, with the focus moving from sustainability to personalized care solutions, merging into a very modern business concept: green and custom industry.
For the first year, Vittorio Senatore (Branduardi’s Lab) and Sara Fumagalli (Casiraghi’s Lab) will illustrate their respective PhD projects. With a speech entitled “REPLAY: REconnecting PLAstics life cycle to biogeochemical cycles by sustainable hydrolysis and Yeasts fermentation”, Vittorio will deal with the major and pressing unsolved problem of plastic upcycling, showing a brilliant application of a “Design-Build-Test-Learn” cycle. Sara will present “SKIOME project: lead skin microbiome research towards interdisciplinary approaches”, an extremely interdisciplinary project with possible outcomes ranging from microbiome-conscious cosmetic products to personalized medicine.
As 2nd year student, the presentation by Stefania Pagliari (Campone’s Lab) will focus on extractions processes, in particular illustrating pressurized hot water extraction, a technique learned and optimized during the first half of her PhD. Her speech, entitled “Green and selective extraction for recovery of bioactive compounds”, will surely provide insights into innovative extraction techniques with high industrial appeal, since their aim is to increase extraction efficiency while reducing the environmental impact.
Alex Pessina will chair the meeting, guiding and enriching the discussion.
