Comment by Lorenzo Rossi (Russo’s Lab)
Here we are with a new Spring Meeting appointment! On Wednesday, June 1st, the subjects discussed will focus on biomedicine and health, ranging from neuroscience to aging, from molecular biology to nutraceutics. The topics will be wide but nevertheless brightly presented, resulting in an extremely appealing Spring Meeting session. Besides, we remind you the opportunity to ask questions, which will surely enrich the discussion. Don’t be shy!
For the first year, Roberta Pensotti (Regonesi’s Lab) will introduce and illustrate her PhD project. With a speech entitled “Nutraceutical approach to increase healthy aging using Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism”, Roberta will deal with a process that every human being must face. Furthermore, our society in its entirety is moving towards an aging process, making this topic of great interest on multiple levels. Also, nutraceutics and the employment of natural extracts in medicine are hot topics, all concentrated in a very interesting presentation.
As 2nd year students, Elisa Perciballi (Ferrari’s Lab) and Paolo Pizzul (Bonetti’s Lab) will update us with the progresses achieved during the first half of their PhD. Furthermore, they will illustrate techniques learned and optimized, sharing useful insights. Elisa, in her speech entitled “How neuroinflammation contribute to ALS pathogenesis? Differentiation of hiPSCs into primitive microglia-like cells”, will illustrate a high-yield protocol for producing iMGLs from induced pluripotent stem cells, which may lead to important advances in ALS pathology and microglia studies. With the aim of monitoring meiotic recombination, focusing on DNA double-strand breaks and the action of MRX complex, Paolo will discuss a published and optimized method to detect Spo11-oligo complexes in order to investigate the MRX activity in different mutants.
Stefania Garbujo and Luca Mastella will chair the meeting, guiding and enriching the discussion.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 1st, in room U1-04 at 14.00.
Good luck to everyone! We hope to see you during these meetings!
