The core of the project, within the National Biodiversity Future Center (NBFC), is to valorise biodiversity as driving force for the development of microbial-based biorefineries.
This biorefinery setting matches the biodiversity that derives from the biomass used as feedstock, from the enzymes used for releasing nutrients from biomass, and from the cell factories that are transforming these nutrients into final products. Within this frame, as case study two residual biomasses of urban origin (spent coffee grounds – SCG - and park woody waste) are treated by enzymatic hydrolysis to release sugars, and hydrolysates are then used as growth medium for fermentation by natural or engineered microbes.

The seminar is OPEN to everyone.
