Biotechnology and Biosciences Seminar - giovedì, 19 maggio 2022, ore 16:30, aula U3-04 / Webex
Jessica Zampolli, Assistant Professor in Microbiology at University of Milano-Bicocca, Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences
Abstract

Environmental pollution is increasing manifolds due to anthropogenic activities and four decades of constant plastic accumulation is currently a great concern. The microbial degradative potential is an ecofriendly resource for biomonitoring, biotechnological, and bioremediation purposes. Among degrading microorganisms, bacteria belonging to Rhodococcus genus are noteworthy for their multiple interesting characteristics.
This seminar will show an overview of integrated “-omic” and functional approaches to investigate bacterial genetic and metabolic features for the biodegradation of emerging concern contaminants. Prominence results of synthetic plastic biodegradation will be shared.
