Urbanucci's lab uses state of the art single cell and spatial technology to investigate the tumor and the tumor microenvironment in prostate and other cancer types. The overall research has two overarching aims: (a) understand tumor plasticity and how the tumor microenvironment modulates the metastatic potential of single primary tumor foci; (b) development of optimal patients’ risk and treatment stratification methods.

In this talk Dr Urbanucci will present how using single-cell and spatial transcriptomics, his lab and collaborators identified a small number of transcriptionally distinct epithelial-like cells within the primary prostate tumor. The cells are called club-like cells, are treatment persistent, are linked to therapy resistance, immunosuppression, and onset of metastases. Moreover, Dr Urbanucci will also present recent unpublished results on the molecular characterisation of tumors from metastatic prostate cancer patients treated with a cancer vaccine.

Host: Ferdinando Chiaradonna
