Abstract
The study of insect pollinators, such as honey bees and bumblebees, requires a multidimensional approach capable of capturing the complex network of interactions that these social organisms establish with the external environment. In this presentation, I will focus on two distinct yet complementary topics: first, investigating how the presence of a viral infection in the brain of the honey bee (Apis mellifera) may affect the cognitive functions that are essential for efficient foraging behaviour; and second, characterizing the nutritional landscape of wild bumblebee populations (Bombus spp.) currently undergoing decline in the United Kingdom, and therefore of significant ecological interest.
