Abstract
The Human Microbiome Project has profoundly reshaped our understanding of the role of microbial communities in human health and disease. However, translating microbiome research into clinically meaningful insights requires robust analytical workflows capable of handling complex shotgun metagenomic data. I will present a comprehensive workflow for the analysis of metagenomic data, from preprocessing and taxonomic profiling to functional characterization and integrative interpretation. Two case studies will illustrate how community-level alterations can serve as informative biomarkers, providing novel perspectives for risk stratification, early detection, and mechanistic understanding.
