Seminar - Biotechnology and Biosciences - Thursday 18 April 2024, 4.30 pm, U4-TELLUS building, room U4-01
Davide Maggioni, Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences, University of Milan-Bicocca.
Abstract

Understanding the multiple facets of biodiversity is fundamental for comprehending the natural world and directing effective conservation efforts. A multidisciplinary approach is needed for this purpose, integrating fields such as taxonomy, genetics/genomics, and ecology, among the others. In this seminar the effectiveness of such an integrative approach will be demonstrated through various examples. These examples encompass the description of new taxa and the identification of cryptic diversity, the elucidation of symbiotic relationships, the exploration of evolutionary and phylogeographic patterns in charismatic and functionally important organisms, and the detection of food fraud.
The seminar is OPEN to everyone.
